Archiving Policy

1. Introduction

The Journal of Climate and Community Development (JOCCD) is committed to the long-term preservation and accessibility of its published scholarship. This archiving policy outlines the procedures and responsibilities for ensuring that JOCCD articles are securely stored and readily available for future generations of researchers, practitioners, and the public.

2. Archiving Format and Platform

JOCCD utilizes a multi-pronged approach to archiving its content:

  • Portico: All published articles are deposited with Portico, a non-profit digital preservation service dedicated to safeguarding scholarly literature. Portico ingests JOCCD content in multiple formats, including XML, PDF, and full-text, to ensure long-term access and sustainability.
  • National Libraries: JOCCD deposits its publications with national libraries such as the Library of Congress (US) and the British Library (UK). These institutions play a crucial role in preserving cultural and scholarly heritage for future generations.
  • Publisher's Repository: JOCCD maintains its own digital repository where all published articles are archived in perpetuity. This ensures immediate access to the journal's content, regardless of any potential disruptions with external platforms.

3. Archiving Timeline and Responsibilities

  • Submission: Upon article acceptance, authors are required to grant JOCCD non-exclusive archiving rights. This allows the journal to deposit the article with Portico, national libraries, and its own repository.
  • Publication: Within 24 hours of publication, the final version of the article is deposited with all designated archiving partners.
  • Ongoing Maintenance: JOCCD is responsible for ensuring the integrity and accessibility of its archived content over time. This includes migrating content to new formats as necessary and addressing any technical issues that may arise.

4. Author Rights and Access

Authors retain copyright for their published articles in JOCCD. The archiving policy does not affect authors' rights to disseminate their work through other channels, such as their personal websites or institutional repositories. Authors are encouraged to deposit their accepted manuscripts in institutional repositories, as this can increase discoverability and citation rates.

5. Public Access

JOCCD recognizes the importance of open access to scholarly literature. While the journal currently operates under a subscription-based model, it is committed to exploring open access options in the future. The archiving policy ensures that, regardless of the access model, JOCCD articles will be preserved and accessible to future generations.
