Impact of gender on hypertension management: A case study of Sialkot

Hypertension has become a significant health issue. This study’s main objective was to determine the impact of gender behaviour on hypertension management in District Sialkot. In this study, a cross-sectional research design was used. 385 respondents (male and female) were selected from ages 20 to 50 through purposive sampling from different hospitals: Barkat Hospital, Civil Hospital, Kiran International Hospital, Bashir Hospital, and Ali Memorial Hospital in Sialkot. Bem created the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI), which measures gender behaviour, and Nargis Akhter created the Hypertension Self-Management Behaviour Questionnaire (HSMBQ), which measures self-management. For data analysis, the statistical software SPSS was used. Means, standard deviations, percentages, and frequencies were used to analyse the data. The results of the t-test indicated a significant relation between gender and hypertension management. The finding of the t-test indicated that the management of hypertension is p = .000. The management of hypertension is significantly related, as indicated by the Sig. (2-tailed) values in this case being .000 (p<0.05)’. There was a significant difference in hypertension management between the group of males and females (t (383) = -3.770, p = .000). The p-value is .000, which shows a statistically significant effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. Gender behaviour has a 0.38% effect on hypertension management, which can be categorised as a small effect.
