Assessing the impact of 2022 flood on school education in South Punjab

Floods have repeatedly been playing havoc to Pakistan. The 2022 flood was one of the worst floods in the history of Pakistan. It badly affected the socio-economic sectors in Pakistan. The education sector was also affected seriously. South Punjab was the worst affected region in Pakistan. That is why, educational activities were disrupted badly. Qualitative research design besides with explanatory and interpretive techniques is used in this study. For data collection, secondary sources, i.e. published books, journals, articles, newspapers, etc. is used. The study finds out that 2022 flood highly impacted the educational performance in South Punjab. Educational activities were disrupted. Schools remained closed for several months as schools' buildings and class rooms were collapsed; schools' buildings and premises were used as relief and temporary shelter camps. Students' enrollment was decreased and dropout ratio was increased. However, Disaster Risk Reduction techniques and flood resilient schools' buildings are vital to carry on the educational activities unhindered.
